Norman M. Umihulumakaokalani Nakamoto was born in Lahaina, Maui on June 25, 1938. The youngest son of the late Charlotte Ku’ulei Ontai and Masaru Nakamoto of Lahaina.
Norman was a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha and Hale O Na Alii.
As a member of the Royal Order of Kamehameha, Norman represented Native Hawaiians at the beatification of Mother Marianne Cope in Rome in 2005.
Norman also served as the family historian, genealogist, and the first President for Ka Ohana Makekau. He also coordinated several reunions, including the most recent event on July 2007, which had an attendance of over 400 family members.
His proudest accomplishment was returning the remains of his great-great-grandfather, Abel Keli’imakekauonu’uanu Makekau to Lahaina on June 9, 2007.
On September 8, 2007 Norman passed away.
